Technical Notes
“I shoot with 35mmm and medium format digital SLRs and process my images using both Mac and Windows. My primary software is Lightroom and Photoshop, plus specialized plug-ins such as Nik and Photomatix.
Though I have unlimited freedom in the digital darkroom, my goal is always to create the photograph in the camera as much as possible. Most of my finished images are not significantly manipulated from the original capture.
I love to shoot outdoors using natural light — I rarely use artificial light — but I do frequently use reflectors and diffusers to modify natural light.
I make my own fine art prints using an Epson Stylus Pro 9800 with Ultrachrome K3 inks; up to 44 by 400 inches. I also use several national photo labs for other print projects, including the online ordering from my Web site. Some of my prints are on photographic paper, others on canvas, fabric, aluminum and other interesting substrates. Many of my abstract images are mixed media: digital photographs printed on canvas, overpainted with acrylic.” - Nat Coalson
